What’s a Xian?

A “Xian” is a Christian. It stems from the historical shorthand of substituting the Greek letter chi for the word Christ. Here at The Xian AnCap, we want to avoid any ambiguity as to what true Christianity is.

The Christian religion is that which recognizes reality as it is. In Genesis 1:1, the Bible begins with:

In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.

It proceeds to reveal God’s work in creating the universe, the earth, and everything within it, including man. The rest of Scripture, from Genesis to the book of Revelation, is the unfolding story of God’s plan of redemption, beginning with the rebellion and fall of man into sin and corruption, to the revealing of God in the Lord Jesus Christ and His work to save sinners, to conclude with God’s physical return to earth to judge all things, cast away sin and death once and for all, and enjoy perfect union with His restored people for eternity.

Proverbs 1:7 says,

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction.

In order to understand anything about reality, one must recognize and believe God as He is. That is to say, man recognizes God as the Creator, and he the creation. He recognizes that God is indeed sovereign and yields absolute authority over man, and the revelation that He gave us in Scripture is trustworthy. In order for anyone to know anything, that is to say, if anyone is to claim justified true belief, they must begin with the God of the Bible. He is the one Who is; apart from Him we can’t know anything at all.

But Christianity isn’t only a matter of belief in God. In fact, mere belief in God is insufficient and wholly damnable per Romans 1:18-32. The fundamental core of Christianity is Jesus Christ, the object of every Christian’s faith. To be Christian is to believe in Jesus Christ in who He says He is, and trust in His work alone to save sinners as Scripture declares.

According to the Bible, Jesus is many things, first and foremost God. He is the second Person of the triune God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. He is Lord over all creation, and He is Savior of every sinner who trusts in His salvation.

Once he is saved by God’s grace alone through faith alone in Jesus Christ alone, the Christian seeks to obey the two greatest commandments as affirmed by Jesus Himself in Matthew 22:37-39:

…You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.

We at The Xian AnCap desire for every reader to come to a true knowledge of reality in the Person of Jesus Christ, Who is truth itself. We recognize many readers will scoff at this being that they deny the truth in their unrighteousness. Nevertheless, we unashamedly point every reader to the Gospel of Jesus Christ, which alone has the power to save the most wretched sinner. To learn more, visit Do You Know HIM?
